Report from Kesennuma

On March 17th, Takashi Morizumi, photojournalist well known with his works in Iraq and Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan, arrived in the city of Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture.

In his blog, he compared this tsunami stricken town with battle fields in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Lebanon.

Masato Goto was in charge of disaster prevention in his neighborhood association and led the people in the community to a safe elevated site immediately after the earthquake hit. He picked up a can flowed out from a cannery nearby and said that it was a souvenir for his grandchild. There is nothing. Water, heating oil, food, clothes, nothing. Send all the relief supply immediately.

This is the photojournalist’s first report from Kesennuma. Please see his photo and the whole article here.
